Pregnancy is a time in a woman’s life when her body must be especially strong and healthy in preparation for childbirth and motherhood. A good Chiropractor can help insure that the reproductive and other systems essential for a healthy pregnancy receive optimal nerve supply from the spinal cord. Interference to this supply may adversely affect the mother and the developing fetus. A woman’s body changes both physically and hormonally as the pregnancy progresses. Misalignments of the spine can occur as the fetus grows, putting excessive force on the middle-and-low back (sciatica), pelvis and tailbone. Misalignments of the spine and pelvis can prevent proper movement (opening) of the pelvis during delivery. These misalignments may result in longer labor and delivery time of the infant and may be responsible for a Breech presentation of the infant.
It's LABOR for the INFANT too!
The delivery process, especially a difficult one, adversely affects the infant and can cause neurological problems and/or exacerbate underlying health problems. The birth process places great physical stress on the infant’s head, neck and spine. This stress can cause misalignments of the infant’s spine and possible interference with nervous system function and overall health. Specially trained Chiropractors, such as Dr. Dawn, use gentle adjustments specific to the infant’s spine to remove these subluxations before they can have lasting effects.
COMPLICATED BIRTHS
It is estimated that 14% of all births are malpositioned or malpresented, like Breech. Dr. Dawn has special training in specific adjustment procedures and integrated techniques which have been found to be effective in turning a breech baby. This procedure is safe for the mother and infant, and completely non-invasive. Chiropractic care can also help women with fertility problems, morning sickness and postpartum depression. Research has demonstrated that chiropractic adjustments can shorten labor and lessen the need for medication by up to 50%
